In Assam state he belongs to Jorhat district. He also a great musician, composer, song writer. He had also talent to play various instruments such as Dhol, Harmonica, Guitar, Drums, Mandolin, Keyboard, Tabla, Harmonium etc. He was also a great actor and film director. He had done a famous Assamese serial named ‘Anuradha’. Zubeen Garg sung approximately 40,000 songs in many languages. His some famous songs are – Mayabini Ratir Bukut, Ya Ali, Dil Tu Hi Bataa, O Mur Apunar Desh, Mugdho Hiya Mur, Maya, Endhar Hobo Nuwaru, Rumaal etc.

Early Life of Zubeen Garg :

The Legendary figure of Assam Zubeen Garg was born on 18 November, 1972. He was born in a beautiful place of Meghalaya, Tura. His father’s name is Mohini Mohon Borthakur and Mother’s name is Ily Borthakur. His real name is Jibon borthakur but later he wanted to change it as Zubeen Garg. He replace the surename borthakur with ‘Garg’ which is his Brahmin Gotro Title. Zubeen Garg’s ancestral roots in Jorhat. His father was a magistrate and mother was a singer. His father was also known as lyricst and poet, where he used a pen name Kapil Thakur.

Zubeen garg’s sister Jonkie Borthakur, who was also a great singer in that time. But unfortunately she died in a car accident while travelling to perform a special stage show. This accident was happened in Sonitpur District along with her co-artists. Zubeen had released the album ‘Sishu’ in the year 2002, in the memory of his sister Jonkie Borthakur. Jonkie Borthakur was Zubeen’s elder sister and younger sister is Palme Borthakur who is the Head of Department and Assistant Professor of Geography at the USTM (University of Science and Technology Meghalaya).

Education :

Zubeen Garg had primary education at Carmel School, Jorhat and then later he attended Karimganj High School as well as Bijni High School. He passed his HSLC (matric) examination from tamulpur Higher Secondary, Nalbari in the year 1989. He had a great times and memories with these school life. In the same year he moved to Bongalpukhuri which is situated in Jorhat. After that he studied HS (higher secondary) in Science stream at JB College. Later he went to pursue B.Sc. in B.Borooah College in 1991. But through this time he dropped out to concentrate on his singing Career because he is very passionate with this career. The whole day and night, specially at night he had lots of practice of singing. In early age of his life, Zubeen Garg’s mother Ily Borthakur helped him to learn proper singing.

Zubeen Garg started his singing practice from the age of Three (3). His first singing teacher or Guru was his mother. From his mother he got lots of pure knowledge of music. He also learnt to playing Tabla from Pandit Robin Banerjee for 11 years. The Assamese Folk Music was introduced by Guru Ramani Rai. Through this two legend he got huge pure knowledges regarding music. Zubeen Garg had been composing songs and attached in musical line since his school days. In the year 1992, Zubeen Garg made his first debut as an Assamese solo album, ‘Anamika’ which was under the record label NK production. His first recorded songs were ‘Tumi Janu Pariba Xun’ and ‘Tumi Junaki Xubah’ for the album Ritu. He released various albums such as ‘Xopunor Xur’ (1992), ‘Junaki Mon’ (1993), Maya (1994), Asha (1995) etc. In the year 1995, he released his first Bihu album ‘Ujan Piriti’ which was a good commercial success at that time.

In the mid life of his music career, Zubeen Garg moved to Mumbai to work in the Bollywood music industry. During that period he debuted his first Indipop solo album ‘Chandni Raat’. He sang for Bollywood films including ‘Gaddaar’ (1995), ‘Dil Se’ (1998), ‘Fiza’ (2000). Zubeen Garg got his biggest breakthrough in Bollywood from the film ‘Gangstar’ starred by Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut where he sang the song ‘Ya Ali’. This song rise Globally. Through this song he won the best playback singer ‘Global Indian Film Awards (GIFA) in 2006. His next Hindi album ‘Zindagi’ was released in the year 2007. In the same year, he collaborated with Ustad Sultan Khan to sing ‘Jag Lal Lal Lal’ for the film ‘Big Brother’. Apart from Assamese and Hindi music industry, his musical career also included in Bengali music industry. It was started from 2003 where he started to work for Bengali songs. His some famous Bengali songs are – ‘O Bondhure’, ‘Lagena Bhalo’ from the movie ‘Premi’, ‘Mon Mane Na’ from the movie ‘Mon Mane Na’ and ‘Piya Re Piya Re’ from the movie ‘Chirodini Tumi Je Amaar’ etc.

Acting Career :

We already know about Zubeen Garg’s contribution for Assamese Music Industry as well as Bollywood and Bengali Music Industry but he also made his debut as an Actor and Film director for the film ‘Tumi Mur Mathu Mur’. This film was released in early 2000 under a familiar production house named NK Production. He acted in some films such as ‘Prem Aru Prem’ (2002), ‘Dinabandhu’ (2004), ‘Mon Jaai’ (2008), ‘Bhal Pabo Najanilu’ (2013), ‘Gaane Ki Aane’ (2016), ‘Mission China’ (2017), ‘Priyaar Priyo’ (2017), ‘The Underworld’ (2018), ‘Kanchanjangha’ (2019), ‘Rajneeti’ (2022), ‘Dr. Bezbaruah’ (2023) etc.

Zubeen Garg was always known for his bold, logical truthful statements. His remarks on social, religious and cultural issues achieve both support and criticism. He also remarks on politicians and ministers which were not properly smooth acceptation for some group of people. He also got some criticism for the use of Alcohol in his entire life. Through this song he tried to express his feelings regarding Politics and some useless Govt Act like CAA. Zubeen Garg, this name also appeared in holy social service like poor people’s health care or check up. Someone’s eye operation, kidney, lung, heart operation done by him. He had given a huge contribution to help poor or needy people. So everyone from Assam state love him soo much and called him God.

Personal Life & Love Life :

I already mentioned that his father’s name is Mohini Mohon Borthakur and mother’s name is Ily Borthakur. They gave him a very artistic and creative background, through this artistic background he learnt lots of things in his life such as singing, playing different instruments, writings etc. He married to Garima Saikia Garg on 4th February 2002. He met her luck by chance through a letter. When Zubeen Garg’s two most famous album ‘Anamika’ and ‘Maya’ released she became fan of him and for this reason she sent him a fan letter to him. Usually all fan letters check by other stuff which are along with him but fortunately this particular letter checked by Zubeen Garg himself and he also impressed with her words. After some time, they met and became friend of each other. Gradually this friendship grow and it transformed as Love relation.
